Introduction to Facelift
Facial expressions are often one of the first ways we perceive someone’s age; however, appearance does not always reflect how someone truly feels. Many individuals with excess, sagging skin and deep wrinkles may look older than they are and seek a solution to help their face look the age they feel. At The Nikolov Center for Plastic Surgery in Dubai, we have helped many patients achieve a natural-looking, refreshed, and youthful facial appearance. The facelift can produce life-changing results, making it one of the most sought-after facial rejuvenation procedures worldwide.

What is a Facelift?
A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the face and reverse signs of aging. According to The Cleveland Clinic, “Facelifts are considered cosmetic restorative surgeries and cannot fundamentally change your appearance or stop the aging process.”1 Instead, the procedure involves tightening sagging skin, removing excess fat, and tightening the underlying facial structures to make patients look several years younger. It can also reduce jowls, deep wrinkles, and “turkey neck,” creating smoother, firmer skin.
There are several different types of facelifts, each designed for different levels of skin laxity. No matter which type of facelift you get, we tailor the technique to your unique facial anatomy. The different types are outlined below.
Mini-Facelift
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says, “While the traditional facelift is and always will be one of the most popular procedures in plastic surgery, early intervention facelifts are currently booming.”2 A mini-facelift is a surgical procedure designed to treat mild to moderate facial and neck laxity. It lifts and tightens mild facial laxity using shorter incisions and is typically recommended for patients experiencing early signs of aging, often in their 40s or 50s. It involves less downtime, swelling, and bruising than more advanced techniques, such as a traditional or deep plane facelift.
Deep Plane Facelift
The deep plane facelift is one of the most advanced facelift techniques available. Rather than just tightening the skin, it delivers dramatic anti-aging results by lifting and repositioning the deeper layers of facial muscles, fat, and underlying ligaments to reduce sagging in the cheeks and jowls and reposition deeper facial tissues and address excess skin. It’s best for individuals with moderate to severe signs of aging, with results lasting 10-15 years.
Non-surgical Facelift
There are several different types of non-surgical facelifts, ranging from injectables to laser treatments. Non-surgical facelifts target volume loss, wrinkles, and sagging skin for individuals with minimal signs of aging. They rejuvenate, lift, and tighten the face without incisions or stitches and typically require only topical anesthetics. In general, patients who get a non-surgical facelift require minimal recovery, no downtime, and notice results lasting a few months to over a year.

What’s the First Step?
The first step toward getting a facelift at The Nikolov Center for Plastic Surgery in Dubai is to schedule a consultation with our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Nikolov. You do not need to have an in-depth understanding of the procedure beforehand, as Dr. Nikolov will explain it in detail throughout the consultation. That being said, you should come prepared with questions regarding the surgery itself and the benefits, your aesthetic goals and concerns, and your medical history.
To better understand how he can help you achieve your goals, Dr. Nikolov will examine your face and determine if your goals and signs of aging are a good fit for the procedure. If Dr. Nikolov determines that you are a good fit, he will set you up with a surgical plan tailored to your unique facial anatomy, skin quality, and goals. You will then schedule an appointment with our Patient Coordinator for your surgery, who will provide instructions on how to prepare.
What to Expect on the Day of Facelift Surgery
Prior to getting a facelift at The Nikolov Center for Plastic Surgery in Dubai, you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery, as it will not be safe for you to get home alone.
During the procedure, you will be given local or general anesthesia, depending on the conversation during your consultation. After the anesthesia takes effect and you are completely comfortable, Dr. Nikolov will make targeted incisions along marked lines, lift and reposition the deeper facial tissues, and remove excess skin. Then, he’ll close the incisions with stitches and apply dressings.
You’ll wake up feeling pretty groggy from the anesthesia, but this is normal. Recovery instructions will be provided to you and the person who picks you up.
Facelift Recovery
Small drainage tubes will be placed under your skin to get rid of any excess fluid and blood. After your surgery, your face will be swollen, bruised, and tender. Prescribed pain medication will help you tolerate these side effects. A few days after your surgery, you will return to the office to have your bandages removed. You’ll be given an elasticized facial sling to keep you comfortable.
Additional follow-up appointments include stitch removal, checking your incisions for infection, and monitoring the healing process. You will go over which activities are safe for you to do and how to do them safely, such as bathing, styling your hair, and dressing yourself. Patients often return to the office after 10-14 days, provided they follow Dr. Nikolov’s instructions closely and avoid activities such as working out, using steam rooms, or using saunas.
Recovering in a safe environment where you can rest peacefully is crucial to achieving optimal results. Resting on your back helps minimize pressure on the face during healing.

How Much Does a Facelift Cost in Dubai, UAE?
The cost of a facelift in Dubai will look different for each individual. It is largely affected by the extent of the procedure, the number of sessions you will need to attend, how much anesthesia is used, and whether you combine it with other procedures. A Patient Coordinator will go over the cost with you in detail to ensure you are comfortable with the estimate.
