Hair loss may be one of the first signs that you’re not as young as you used to be. You might agree that aging isn’t all bad. You’re probably smarter, wiser, and a whole lot more confident now than you were as a teen or young adult. Wouldn’t it be nice, though, if you could get some of your hair back as you move into this next, best phase of adulthood?
NeoGraft® and Dr. Nicholas Nikolov’s skill as a surgeon make that possible. No hair transplant procedure gives you the same lustrous locks you had as a teen, but the NeoGraft method can provide you with youthful volume that may help you look as young as you feel
Better yet, the NeoGraft system uses the follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique for your hair transplant. That means you don’t have to worry about caring for long, scalp-stripping incision sites or scarring afterward.
Learn why Dr. Nikolov recommends NeoGraft as the least invasive hair transplant method available and why it offers the most natural-appearing results for men and women who are experiencing hair loss.
Hair Transplant Basics
During a hair transplant, your surgeon removes (extracts) hair-producing follicles from the back and sides of your head, where hair is often more plentiful, and transplants them into the skin of thinning or balding patches on your head.
We expect the newly transplanted hair to fall out after two to three weeks, but the follicle itself remains alive. After about three to four months, the transplanted follicles begin normal hair-growth cycles, providing you with increased volume and a natural appearance. Simply put, it looks and feels like your own hair, because it is.
Why The Method Of Follicle Extraction Matters
Plastic surgeons generally use one of two methods to extract donor follicles for a transplant: follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) or follicular unit extraction (FUE). At the Nikolov Center for Plastic Surgery, we use the FUE technique combined with the automated precision that NeoGraft offers.
During FUSS, after your scalp is numbed with local anesthetic, your surgeon removes a narrow strip of skin from the back of your head that’s 6-10 inches long. The area is then closed with stitches. The surgeon divides the strip of donor scalp into hundreds to thousands of tiny grafts, which they insert into the targeted transplant sites.
With FUE, we use a specially designed surgical punch to extract follicular units one-by-one, each of which may contain one to three hairs. This method requires no suturing, results in faster healing time, and gives us a broader range over which to extract donor follicles. And if you wear your hair short, you don’t have to worry about showing off a large and often embarrassing scar.
The NeoGraft Advantage
NeoGraft is an automated system that delivers superior results when it comes to extracting and implanting the donor follicle units used for your hair transplant.
The system is designed for the FUE technique and utilizes a technologically advanced handpiece that allows us to precisely, quickly, and gently extract donor follicles that are consistent in length and diameter, greatly increasing their transplant viability.
For the transplant process, NeoGraft provides a “no-touch” technique that greatly reduces the risk of trauma to the follicular graft. This helps ensure it settles nicely into its new location and provides you with a natural-looking hairline and the increased volume you desire.
